The Ol Doinyo Lengai Mountain -3 450m- is an active volcano in the south of Lake Natron.

The mountain stands on the Masaai land, in the Rift Valley. Worshipped by the Maasai, the impressive peak is the sacred home of their god Enkai.

The Ol Doinyo Lengai – only active sodium carbonite volcano in the world – still erupts occasionally, the last time in March 2007. You may have the opportunity to walk on still steaming ground.

Only 5-6 hours are necessary to reach the summit. Rains streaming down the slopes of the Oldonyo nourish the water of Lake Natron, biggest breeding site of lesser flamingos in the world. Original Tanzania gives you the opportunity to discover this magnificent ecosystem with a 5-day tour.
