Itinerary

Your journey starts at Dar es Salaam domestic airport with a flight to Pemba Island. Upon
arrival at Pemba Airport, you will be collected and transferred to your hotel located on the
wonderful coast of Pemba.

Dinner and Overnight at Resort/Lodge.

After breakfast, book a day trip south of Pemba to visit the flying fox forest.
The fox flying to Pemba is very social and has recently been found in large colonies. The fox
flying to Pemba is found only on the island of Pemba in Tanzania. The island was originally
forested, but only the remnants of the main forest remained. Recently, speculations about
the state of the fox flying to Pemba have been mixed. It is also known that most flying foxes
eat fruit and bear fruit. Fruit wounds are environmentally and economically important
because they pollinate and disperse the seeds of wild and commercial plants. On the way to
Chake Chake City, we will visit Spice farms and plantations, Friendly, knowledgeable, and
informative Tour Guides will escort you on a walking tour of the spice farms, picking bunches
of leaves, fruit, and twigs from bushes and trees, inviting you to smell or taste them to guess
what they are. This is a half-day tour through the old road to Mtambwe village where you
can see a variety of spices before visiting the oil distillery factory located 4 kilometers from
Chake Chake Town Centre at Wawi village.

Dinner and Overnight at Resort/Lodge

Breakfast at the Resort and depart for a cultural tour The Island of Pemba has a unique culture that makes tourism here a rich and multicultural experience. Pemba is famous for its tranquil life where reliving bygone days is the style. Most of the residents are fishermen although there are also some small farmers. Typical activities include fishing, food gathering, artisanship, and businesses. You will enjoy seafood and locally grown fruits and root crop. Then visit the Ngezi Peninsula is the northernmost point on Pemba. Much of the area is taken up by the Ngezi Forest, which is the last remains of a huge tract of indigenous forest which used to cover most of Pemba. Ngezi is home to the Pemba Flying Fox, a bat endemic to the island. The forest itself is a protected area. On the east side of the Ngezi peninsula is Vumawimbi Beach, an immaculate beach with miles of white sand flanked by a pristine forest. On the western side is found the “Pango ya Watoro” or the cave of the fugitives. If you are interested, we can take some more time with you visiting the “Cultural areas” these are parts of the forest that are sacred, and people periodically sweep and clean to appease their ancestors. These sacred places called “MIZIMU” are used for prayers, requests, and offerings to the spirits of the dead. Local villagers recognize five such sites.

Dinner and Overnight at Resort/Lodge.

Full-day leisure at the resort with the option of water sports like Big Game Fishing,
Parasailing, Kayak, Dhow Sailing, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Kite Surfing, Water Skiing, and
Jet Skiing. There are 2 diving centers on the island, but I decided to go with Big Blu, opting for a 2-day diving package; 2 afternoon dives on the first day and then 2-afternoon dives and a night dive on the second day.
