6 Days Mafia Cultural Tour & Scuba Diving

Your journey starts at Dar es Salaam domestic airport with a flight to Mafia Island. Upon
arrival at Mafia Airport, you will be collected and transferred to your hotel located on the
wonderful coast of Mafia.

Dinner and Overnight at Resort/Lodge.

Breakfast at the resort and your guide will take you on a cultural trip to the island, The
excursions around Kinasi - by foot, road, or boat - including visiting Chole island and village
(with its historic ruins and large Pteropus bats), Jibondo Island and village (an old and very
interesting fishing village), Juan Island with its water pools and springs, and the nearby
Utende village and farming areas. The Chole Walk is a fascinating window into the traditional
life of a peaceful and industrious village community, as well as an interesting visit to nature.
Mafia was formed from sediments of the Rufiji River and it seems that Chole was blessed
with more than its fair share of rich soils, so it is a lush and agriculturally productive
“shamba. The Chole people have mastered many crafts such as boat building and rope-making from coconut fiber, and visitors can see these craftsmen at work.

Early breakfast in the morning together with a briefing and then you set sail on the dhow in
search of the whale sharks. When approaching the sharks, the engines are switched off. The
approach is disturbance-free so as not to chase them away. Guests can then jump into the
water and snorkel with them including taking photos and videos. Whale sharks are most
often seen in tropical/subtropical regions. They are solitary and travel alone but aggregate
in a few locations around the world, where they can be seen in larger numbers, such as in
the waters of Galapagos, the Yucatan, Ningaloo, Bahrain, and a few other sites. Mafia Island
is one of these special locations with one of the longest-lasting aggregations and thus one of
the best places to watch these animals. After the tour back to the Lodge/Resort for lunch
and relax at the beach.

Mafia Islands Marine Park has more than 400 coral species and extraordinary reefs and dives
sites. You can be guaranteed exclusivity due to the very few tourists in the area. You can be
offered daily double dives on either the low or high tide (according to the time) and
sometimes it is possible to offer a third/night dive as well (according to the tide time). For
all of our double dives, we have our surface interval on the boat with tea, coffee, and biscuits
before going on to do the second dive. This means that you need to plan to be out for 4-
6hours, depending on the sites that you are interested in visiting. After the tour back to the
Resort for relaxing after the half-day diving

Dinner and overnight at the Lodge/Resort

Full-day leisure at the resort with the option of water sports like Big Game Fishing,
Parasailing, Kayak, Dhow Sailing, Snorkeling, Scuba Diving, Kite Surfing, Water Skiing, and
Jet Skiing. There are 2 diving centers on the island, but I decided to go with Big Blu, opting for a 2-day diving package: 2 afternoon dives on the first day and then 2-afternoon dives and a night dive on the second day.

Breakfast at the lodge then transfer to Mafia Airport for flight back Dar es Salaam, arrive
Dar es Salaam meet our driver and transfer to your Hotel.
